Overview & Job Purpose

The purpose of the role is to ensure the delivery of the GB Business’ Net Sales and Gross Profit targets through business partnering with the Sales and Marketing Directors, to ensure that plans are robust and course corrections are implemented as required. The role leads the Commercial Finance team of 12, business partnering the Sales and Brand teams. In addition the job holder is a key member of the LRS Finance Leadership team.

Key Responsibilities, Scope for Decision Making, KPIs

  • Develop the financial Strategic Plan for the GB Commercial Business balancing investments across the portfolio to ensure sustained profitable growth
  • Ensure balanced financial evaluation of New Product Development projects including post-launch financial evaluation to capture learnings
  • Translate the Strategic Plan into the Annual Operating Plan through ensuring robust detailed bottom up planning balancing Brand and Channel targets.
  • Manage commercial financial performance in-year through regular review cycles, including regular Excom reviews (eg Commercial Review Meeting), identifying necessary course correction both in the Brand and Channel dimensions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate accounting and reporting for areas of control (trade expenditure, A&P budget)
  • Review and communicate in-month performance, including weekly Excomm updates in Weekly Operations Meeting, to ensure ‘no surprises’ through SBFE reporting
  • Ensure thorough governance of trade expenditure through Joint Business Plan approval process, promotional approvals and regular reporting of Net Revenue Management performance
  • Leadership of the commercial finance team, ensuring development plans and succession plans are in place and executed for the team.
  • Coach direct reports to enable effective delegation and engagement
  • Champion process and system improvements to drive efficiencies across finance and the broader business
  • Provide training / coaching interventions to ensure sufficient level of understanding of financial performance from non-finance people
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve performance within scope of responsibility
  • Manage ad hoc projects within scope of responsibility as required
  • Deputise for LRS Finance Director as required

Qualifications & Professional Experience

  • Experience in leading planning and forecasting cycles in an FMCG environment whilst driving process improvement in these areas
  • Expertise in leading commercial business partnering finance teams, ideally with both a Sales and Brand focus
  • Experience of developing teams and coaching performance
  • Financial acumen - qualified accountant with a proven track record of added value in a commercial context
  • Evidence of strong leadership and influencing skills
