Overview & Job Purpose

  • The role is to investigate trends in the microbiological status of products, by-products and to monitor line functions by means of microbial investigations and experimentation through the use of appropriate tools to implement continuous improvement of microbiological activity on site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Audit processes to identify microbiological risk, coordinate microbiological continuous improvement activities and implement agreed solutions
  • Ability to lead projects where microbiological performance is the key indicator
  • Develop and implement alternative microbiological methods, standards and specifications to improve products and processes
  • Lead in the validation of new equipment, methods, technology and media to maintain microbiological Performance
  • Undertake microbiological risk awareness training with the production teams to ensure risks to microbiological quality are understood
  • Ensure all validated methods are documented within the quality system
  • The jobholder is responsible for Product Safety and Product Quality as defined by regulatory, Suntory and local procedures. It is the jobholder’s responsibility to escalate any issues that might compromise Product Safety and product quality

  • Head of Marketing, Marketing Director
  • Customers: Category controllers and buyers across all channels.
  • Senior leadership including board level
  • In-house Marketing Team
  • Lead strategic and tactical Agencies – particularly advertising, media agency, PR, design and shopper
  • Wider senior marketing and commercial leadership teams

Experience and Skills

  • High talent with leadership potential, graduate calibre
  • Strong core leadership competencies
  • Significant and relevant professional experience within FMCG
  • At least 5 year previous marketing experience preferred
  • A strong understanding of the commercial environment
Accountability
  • This role reports to the Microbiology Manager and will interact up to SLT level
  • The job holder is required to manage cross functional teams working on continuous improvement and implementation of the outcomes
  • The job holder is required to ensure that the Microbiology laboratory works to continually improve the methods and services offered to the business
Complexity
  • This role has a responsibility for driving change within the microbiology department and wider influence on microbiological quality throughout the site
  • A high level of negotiation and influencing skills are required to successfully drive continuous improvement Activity
  • The role is required to work with cross functional teams to achieve results whilst being mindful of different departmental priorities

Experience and Skills

  • A degree in a microbiology related science
  • A good working knowledge of HACCP, Quality Systems (e.g. ISO, BRC), Lab accreditation (e.g. UKAS, CLAS), GLP (good laboratory practice) and continuous improvement techniques
  • Computer literate in word, excel, power point, outlook and explorer
